Privacy Policy

Your audio is yours. Tapes is built with privacy at its core. We don't want your recordings, we don't need your data, and we certainly don't sell anything to anyone. Everything stays on your device.

1. Who We Are

Tapes is developed and operated by Jeffrey Asante ("we", "us", "our"), an independent developer based in Accra, Ghana.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

We are not in the business of harvesting user data. Tapes is designed as an offline-first application. We do not collect:

• Your Audio: Your recordings, stems, projects, and processed files never leave your device unless you explicitly export or share them.
• Personal Identity: We don't collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials through the app.
• Location Data: We don't track where you are.
• Usage Profiles: We don't build behavioral profiles or track your interactions within the app.
• Contacts or Photos: We don't access your contacts, photos, or other device data unrelated to audio.

3. Data We May Collect

To maintain app stability and improve the user experience, we may collect minimal, anonymized technical data:

Crash Reports: If Tapes crashes, anonymous diagnostic information may be collected via Apple's crash reporting infrastructure. This helps us identify and fix bugs. Crash reports do not contain your audio content or personal information.

Basic Analytics (Optional): We may collect aggregated, non-identifiable usage statistics. This data is never linked to individual users and is used solely to understand feature adoption and optimize performance.

Support Communications: If you contact us via email for support, we will receive and store your email address and any information you voluntarily provide. This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry.

4. Local Storage & Your Responsibility

All your recordings, projects, and processed audio are stored locally on your device. Tapes does not provide cloud backup services.

Important: If you delete the app, your locally stored data will be permanently deleted. If you lose your device without a backup, we cannot recover your data. We recommend using iOS backup features (iCloud or local backups) to protect your creative work.

5. On-Device AI Processing

Tapes includes powerful AI features including Stem Separation, Audio-to-MIDI Conversion, Vocal Denoising & Dereverb, Sound Classification & Detection, and Key and BPM Analysis.

All AI processing happens entirely on your device. We download the necessary machine learning models once during initial setup. After that, no internet connection is required for processing, and your audio never leaves your phone.

We do not use your audio to train any AI models.

6. Third-Party Services

We do not sell, share, or trade your data with third parties for marketing purposes. The only third parties involved are:

Apple: Apple provides App Store distribution, in-app purchase processing, and crash reporting infrastructure. Apple's handling of data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

RevenueCat (Optional): We may use RevenueCat for subscription management. RevenueCat processes purchase data in accordance with their Privacy Policy.

7. Children's Privacy

Tapes is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete such information.

8. International Data Transfers

Since Tapes operates offline-first and does not transmit your audio content or personal data to external servers, international data transfer concerns do not apply to your creative content.

If you contact us via email, your communication may be processed in Ghana or other locations where email services operate. We take reasonable steps to ensure your information is treated securely.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or request portability of any personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact us at jeffreyoduroasante@gmail.com.

Note: Since we store minimal data and your audio stays on your device, most of these rights are automatically satisfied by our privacy-first architecture.

10. European Users (GDPR)

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom: Where applicable, we process data based on legitimate interests (app stability, service improvement) or your explicit consent. The data controller is Jeffrey Asante, Accra, Ghana. You have rights under GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

11. Retention

We retain minimal data only as long as necessary. Crash reports are retained for up to 90 days for debugging purposes. Support emails are retained as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry, then archived or deleted. Your audio content is stored locally on your device and retained until you delete it.

12. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect any data we process. Since your audio remains on your device, the security of your content primarily depends on your device's security settings (passcode, Face ID, etc.).

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Tapes after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
